The traveling World Press Photo Exhibit will be on view from June 27 to July 17 at United Nations headquarters in New York. Sponsored by the World Press Photo Foundation, Getty Images, the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations, Canon, TNT and the UN Department of Public Information, the exhibit will feature 185 winning images from the 2007 World Press Photo competition.

The annual competition honors photojournalistic excellence, awarding works that represent issues, situations or events of great journalistic importance. Last year's top prize went to British photographer Tim Hetherington, who shot the wining image of a U.S. soldier while on assignment for Vanity Fair in Afghanistan. Getty Images photographers took home five 2007 World Press Awards, two of which went to Pulitzer laureate John Moore for his coverage of the Benazir Bhutto assassination.

The contest attracted more than 5,000 entries from 125 countries. Work was judged by an independent jury, which included MaryAnne Golon, director of photography at Time Magazine, and Stephen Mayes, managing director of VII New York.

Each year, the World Press Photo Exhibit is shown at approximately 100 venues in 55 countries.
