On The Net

Here are links to a few items I spotted on the Internet that are worth reading.

Getty’s Search Engine

On Greg Ceo’s blog you’ll find a post (http://gregceoblog.com/according-to-a-photo-editor-gettys-search-engine-is-head-shoulders-above-their-competition) in which a photo editor currently working at a major publishing company, and with 20 years experience in the business, argues that the Getty Images search engine is head and shoulders above the competition. His comments about both Getty’s search engine and those of its competitors are worth considering.

World Assignments

The World Assignments blog (http://blog.worldassignment.com/) offers some stunning examples of the images a few of its photographers have created on assignment. The reports also offers some practical information on work tips, creative ideas and industry insights.

Currently the work of 1,563 professional photographers and 170 international photo production agencies can be found on the World Assignment's web site. The site serves as a showcase that highlights deserving portfolios and completed assignments. Photographers explain their production process and the relationships between their clients, the talents they hire and their agents.

Should I Work For Free?

At (http://www.shouldiworkforfree.com) you’ll find an interesting and humorous chart that deals with whether graphic artists should work for free. The points made also apply to photographers. The first question to deal with is whether the person asking for the free work is: your mom, a friend, a charity or non-profit organization or a legitimate business? The answers may give you some ideas for the next time someone asks you to work for free.
