I’ve seen several promo videos for the iPad, this one was the first to feature books, the others were magazines. I have also been wondering how much video content will be replacing still imagery, and I came away from this viewing struck at how much there will need to be a balance between the two. Yes, it would be possible to replace most if not all still imagery with interactive images and video, but I realized how much that would distract the viewer and disrupt the flow. If you had all interactive and video, it would almost be impossible to get through anything, and the narrative would become so tangential that it would become a very fragmented experience. There were a lot of still images in this demo and those stills provided a staticness that balanced all the movement going on both by the person using the iPad and the interactive content itself.

I’m sure there will be many providers who will load up on tons of video content, but I believe the successful ones will provide the viewer with a balance that will ultimately be a more relaxing and a more absorbable experience.
