Getty Images plans to use "a handful" of 3D-dedicated photographers to cover secure  next year's Olympic Games in London.

The 3D photographers will complement the agency's team of photojournalists who traditionally cover major sporting events. For the Olympics Getty plans to use around 60 renowned and award-winning sports photographers. Together these photographers are expected to capture over 30,000 images at the Games.

"The technology will give a new dimension and unprecedented insight to the world's greatest sporting event," according to Getty Images, which used 3D technology for the first time in April to photograph the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.
