If the figures in "Getty Images: Why Are Photographer Revenues Dropping?" are reasonably representative, there are at least two major and closely related issues to be considered: the downward trend of royalty-free pricing and oversupply.

We believe that royalty-free will eventually dominate vis-a-vis rights managed, but that RF and RM will continue to dominate more lucrative (i.e. advertising) markets where model and property releases are mandatory.

I would point out that all microstock is model and property released and the releases are more comprehensive than many of the releases for older Rights Managed pictues. Anyone who thinks that the release issue is a factor that will keep customers buying RM images is deceiving themselves. Better to find some other issue to hang your hopes on.
