If you couldn’t make it to the Microstock Expo (MExpo) in Berlin last November now from the comfort of your home or office you can see and hear all the discussions that took place during the two-day conference. Of course, this material will be particular interest to microstock shooters and distributors, but even if you are licensing your work at RM or traditional RF prices you will find that many of the discussions provide important insights into where the stock photo industry is headed.

Of particular interest was the keynote address by Bruce Livingstone, founder of iStockphoto. He sold iStock to Getty Images in early 2006 and continued as CEO of iStock until 2009. In early 2013 he founded Stocksy.com that licenses images in the Midstock price range between $10 and $100. Considering the average licensing fees of the major RM and traditional RF stock photo sellers, these prices are very competitive.

You’ll also want to listen to Yuri Arcurs keynote. Often called the “King of Microstock” he delivers a powerful 50-minute keynote address with tons of visuals, videos and anecdotal stories. In another video Yuri conducts a two hour Masterclass where he demonstrates lighting techniques and discusses his approach to producing some of the best selling stock photography in the world. If you’re short on time be sure to listen to the last 20 minutes of the session where Yuri answers questions from the audience.

One of the most interesting presentations was Wyatt Jenkins’ in the Agency Masterclass Part 2. Jenkins explains many of the cutting edge things Shutterstock is doing to improve search and make it easier for customers to find the right image.

If you’re interested in Video listen to Tyler Olson’s interview with Simon Krzic. This video is FREE. Olson operates Microstockgroup.com. Krzic has over 22,000 video clips on iStockphoto and more than 120,000 total downloads. You can see his work by searching for “simonkr” on iStock. He operates a production operation in Slovenia with 6 full-time staff and 15 part-timers. The team averages 22 clips from each shoot.
.
Krzic also conducted a 2 hour Masterclass where among other things he set up a business conference situation with four models, demonstrated how he would approach such a shoot and then let some of the conference participants use the set to shoot their own video. In another video session Krzic did portfolio reviews.

Prices
