When magazines do a favorable story on a company or product, the company often requests reprints of the story to use in marketing and public relations. These reprints often have great value for the company because they represent an independent point of view.

Negotiating Tips
Magazines charge for reprints. The fee photographers charge for this usage should be based on advertising pricing, not editorial. Reprints are used as advertising by the organization purchasing them. Their distribution is also very targeted giving them an even higher value than normal advertising. It is a good idea when licensing rights for editorial use to specify on your invoice that reprints are not allowed without negotiating an additional fee.
Another source you might want to consider is Seth Resnick's pricing schedules for these uses. They can be found at: www.sethresnick.com/photographersonly/magazinereprints.html
CONSULTATIONS
In the event that you want to discuss the specifics of a particular use Jim Pickerell is available for telephone consultations at 301-251-0720. The fee for such consultations is $2.50 per minute. Most only take a few minutes.
