Alan Meckler may be done with microstock photography but not with crowdsourcing: Last week, WebMediaBrands launched StockLogos.com.
The new site sells user-submitted vector logo artwork and also allows buyers to contact creators to request customizations without the site’s involvement. WebMediaBrands says that the offering is following a path laid out by stock photography, footage and illustration: “The most recent area of design expertise to become commoditized is that of logos, with a number of sites now providing a platform on which designers and clients can meet. New kid on the block is the just-launched StockLogos.com, the latest site from WebMediaBrands, which is also the owner of Graphics.com.”
In addition to direct sales, StockLogos.com allows buyers to post briefs detailing their logo requirements. It also encourages contact between buyers and designers—for logo customization and other projects—by providing designer showcases and offering best-practice content to buyers.
The site refers to itself as a broker and retains 25% of each sale.
