Getty Images has expanded its photographer grant program to include two $15,000 grants for work that raises awareness of a non-profit. These Grants for Good invite photographers to apply by April 15, and winners will be announced in June at the 2009 Cannes Advertising Festival.
Interested photographers need to submit a short written proposal that outlines the shoot plan, a portfolio and a résumé. Getty also asks for a profile of the partner non-profits and a statement of this organization’s support for the photographer’s application. Applications are accepted online.
Applications will be judged by a panel of industry experts. The jury already includes International Center of Photography curator Christopher Phillips and Aperture Foundation publisher and editor Lesley Martin.
Grants for Good augment Getty’s editorial grant program. Since 2004, the company has awarded five $20,000 grants per year to fund work that brings to light important causes. Just as with these editorial grants, the two recipients of Grants for Good will have the option to collaborate with Getty art directors, photo editors and producers while working on their non-profits’ projects.
