Based on iStockcharts figures, iStockphoto had about 1,482,145 downloads in the three weeks between Jan. 9 and Jan. 30. This figure is based on downloads for 23,728 individuals. If the company’s growth rate were to remain flat for the rest of 2009—and it is more likely to continue rising—iStock would license rights to over 25,690,000 images for the year.
In 2007, iStock licensed rights to 17.55 million images. The number of images licensed in 2008 is estimated at between 22 million and 23 million. In the traditionally priced market, Getty Images licensed rights to about 500,000 rights-managed and 1 million royalty-free images in 2008.
The average price per image licensed through iStockphoto is currently estimated at around $6.50. If this estimate is accurate, then iStock would have grossed $9,630,000 in the last three weeks of January.
