With new digital technologies, how old do you have to be to become a professional photographer? Not even 10, according to one experience.
Last week, I spoke to a photographer in South Carolina who does commercial work, stock, events and weddings. He recently had a job that could benefit from a second shooter, and he gave his 9-year-old daughter a $4,000 Nikon to see if she could get anything usable.
After looking at her results, he decided that on the next wedding he shoots, he would use her to photograph the kids. He has agreed to pay her $100, and he is sure he will make money selling the prints. All he has to worry about are child labor laws, though his daughter probably needs some help in negotiating her rate.
