SuperStock has acquired Seattle based
Science Faction Images. The 40,000 tightly edited high-end science and high technology images in the Science Faction collection will allow SuperStock to “better serve our clients in publishing and advertising,” according to Lanny Ziering, CEO of SuperStock.
The category of science and technology is an underserved niche, as imagery of this kind is often difficult to capture and duplicate and requires access to scientific facilities and state of the art equipment such as electron microscopes and telescopes. Ziering said, “The addition of Science Faction is reflective of SuperStock’s understanding of the unique value of this collection and also marks an aggressive move on our part to continue to expand its offering of such specialized content. We’re seeing robust growth in our global sales in the areas of science and technology.”
“SuperStock and Science Faction are a perfect match,” said Roger Ressmeyer, Science Faction’s founder and CEO. “SuperStock impresses me with their understanding and marketing enthusiasm, and especially with their understanding of our scientific subject matter. Their aggressive growth and expansion plans are what convinced us to accept this acquisition offer, which will be tremendously beneficial for our artists and clients alike.”
The Science Faction collection has been, and will continue to be, available through Getty and Corbis.
Ressmeyer is looking forward to getting back to shooting. He will also be working on a feature length documentary motion picture project entitled “Visions of Tomorrow” that will examine where science and technology will take us in the future. This project is in the fundraising phase at the moment.
