Getty Images photographer Brent Stirton took home several honors from this year’s Lucie Awards, including International Photographer of the Year. Stirton’s “Slaughter in the Jungle,” shot for Newsweek and depicting endangered primates, has swept this year’s industry honors, scoring top honors at World Press Photo, Visa pour l’Image, the Overseas Press Club Awards and multiple others.
At the Lucies, the photographer also took the title of Editorial Professional Photographer of the Year, two first-place editorial awards (environmental and feature-story categories) and a third-place award in the people/culture category. The latter was given for portraits of the Omo Valley Tribe, which also earned Stirton a nomination for Professional Photographer of the Year in the deeper perspective category. This is the first time a Getty shooter won multiple Lucies.
A recent interview with Stirton is available on the Getty Images Web site.
