If you are using a drone for aerial photography be careful that you don’t violate FAA regulations. SkyPan International was just
fined $200,000 for violating FAA “Rule 107.”
It's illegal to operate a drone within five miles of an airport. There are about 5,000 airports in the U.S. Make sure you're not near one of them when you’re flying your drone. It may be more difficult to avoid an airport than you think.
After negotiating the $200,000 settlement (the original fine was $1.9 million) SkyPan praised the FAA for it new
“Rule 107” that regulates drone operation, calling it “a flexible and forward-leaning regulatory framework that balances access, innovation, and safety.” For more on Rule 107 see
