New York-based Shutterstock has turned 7. The site was founded by Jon Oringer, who remains its current president and CEO. The company claims the status of the world's largest subscription-based stock agency as of February 2006, when it surpassed half a million images. It was the first in its niche to expand into video in the same year. In 2007, Shutterstock launched a Red Carpet program to help photographers obtain press credentials to entertainment events. A year later, the company launched on-demand image subscriptions. In September 2009, Shutterstock acquired Bigstock. The company's most recent milestone came in February of this year, when it surpassed 10 million images.
