Shutterstock has announced that after “thoughtful consideration and exhausting many different ideas” it will shut down
Skillfeed at the end of the month. They are no longer accepting new subscribers or instructors. The platform will continue functioning for existing members until September 30th when website will be officially shut down.
A little less that two years ago Shutterstock launched
Skillfeed to help creatives and design professionals find online video tutorials on various aspects of the creative process and improve their skills.
Tutorials were sourced from independent instructors, curated and grouped into intensive courses or as quick stand-alone lessons. The service works on a monthly subscription basis that gives unlimited access to video tutorials and is very similar to
Envato’s TutsPlus network.
At launch Skillfeed offered 27,667 tutorials with 3,018 total hours of learning from 1,410 instructors. Now they have 94,616 tutorials with 10,695 hour of instruction from 1,291 instructors.
A factor that may have played a role in Shutterstock’s decision is that the majority of tutorials promoted through Skillfeed are about the use of Adobe products. Now that Adobe has become one of Shutterstock’s major competitors it may no longer make sense to help image users improve their Adobe skills.
