Yesterday we talked about the search by image feature on the
CIR. Today, we discovered that Getty has added a search by image feature to
Thinkstock. Go to the Thinkstock web site and look for the “search by image” button under the search box.
Drag an image into this box and it will tell you, not only if the image is on Thinkstock, but if it can be found on Gettyimage.com, iStockphoto, Jupiterimages or Photos.com. If it is available on more than one of these sites, which many images are, you can click the site name and it will take you where you can price the image and license a use.
The message on Thinkstock says that it will only look for Royalty Free images on these sites, but in fact it will also find Rights Managed images that are on Gettyimages. This feature makes it easy for customers to purchase their images from the cheapest source.
Customers who find an image on one of the other Getty owned sites would be well advised to make a quick trip to Thinkstock, enter a thumbnail of the image they want to use into the image search box and see if they could save money by purchasing a $49 image pack that allows them to download 5 images or a $139 monthly subscription that allows them 50 downloads per month.
