London-based Science Photo Library has announced that a new motion collection is coming this summer.
The move is in response to the global media trend of increasing use of motion content, said SPL. According to managing director Giancarlo Zuccotto, the size of the stock footage market will exceed traditional stills market by 2012.
The collection will cover the same specialist science, medical, technology and natural-world content as the SPL image library. Subject matter will range from the ocean floor and aerial cityscapes to nanorobots at work and the edge of space, said head of SPL Motion Ben Jones. Much of the footage will display events beyond the reach of human vision.
