PicScout Image IRC: Industry Bodies, Agencies Enthusiastic

Following last week’s announcement of a new services platform, PicScout released a statement full of enthusiastic testimonials by managers of professional associations and agencies in the U.S. and abroad.

Cathy Aron, executive director of the Picture Archive Council of America, of which PicScout is a corporate sponsor, says PACA applauds PicScout’s efforts to attach ownership and licensing information to images. Executive director of the American Society of Media Photographers Eugene Mopsik and Stock Artists Alliance president Shannon Fagan express similar sentiments; ASMP even plans to offer PicScout’s new service to its members for consideration.

PicScout says its Image Index Registry Connection has indexed tens of millions of images and is ready to connect image owners and buyers in legitimate online transactions. Companies and agencies on the Image IRC client list include Aflo, Glow Images, Masterfile, Plainpicture, Time, Inc. and others.

Masterfile CEO Steve Pigeon and Life director of business development Jeff Burak both expect Image IRC to be commercially successful. Burak also stresses the technology’s R&D value: “Image IRC technology enables us to quantify actual use and distinguish between consumer and syndication traffic, as well as to gain insight to ways we can better monetize our images.”
