PicScout spin-off
PicApp has announced an agreement with Reuters, adding the news company’s photographic coverage to the ad-supported image-licensing platform. Reuters content brings the PicApp image inventory to roughly 25 million images that range from news, sports and entertainment to travel, fashion, medical, food and other stock categories.
The inventory is updated daily, to the tune of 12,000 images from partners that include Corbis, Getty Images, Image Source, Newscom, Pacific Coast News, Zuma Press and a host of smaller photography suppliers. PicApp says it has a large end-user base, in addition to deals with corporate partners that include Google and several blogging platforms, such as WordPress, BlogHer and Glam Media.
On the heels of U.K.’s passing the Digital Economy Bill, which reinforces copyright protection by introducing new measures to reduce piracy, PicApp stresses its commitment to intellectual property. Vice president of business development Niran Amir pointed out that the PicApp application is the only one to credit the photographer, disable right-click-and-copy functionality and include an image caption, thus maintaining each image’s editorial integrity.
