Photopreneur—a popular Web site dedicated to helping professional and enthusiast photographers earn income from their images—has announced the release of the Amazing Public Domain Images Sourcebook. Published by New Media Entertainment, Photopreneur’s parent company, and available via Amazon.com, the title helps art directors, photo editors and others seeking free images source them among the millions currently available online.
According to the editors of Photopreneur, photo editors, art directors, graphic designers, researchers, educators and bloggers worldwide are increasingly seeking free and low-cost images to illustrate their work. The Sourcebook is interesting from a business perspective, as it seeks to tap into the growing demand for free content with a paid product—and not a cheap one at that. The 232-page paperback retails at just under $50, but is likely to generate demand nonetheless, as it has the potential of saving its users loads of time and money.
“This sourcebook contains more than 200 of the most incredible public domain photos we could find,” says Photopreneur editor Scott Baradell, a photo-industry insider who also edits Black Star Rising and manges his own public relations firm Idea Grove. “Each photo is displayed with its origin and location, providing designers, editors and bloggers with an enormous resource—and… a starting point for their own photographic explorations.”
Photo sources include the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the U.S. Geological Survey, the Library of Congress, NASA, the Netherlands-based Nationaal Archief and the Swedish National Heritage Board, among others.
The Amazing Public Domain Images Sourcebook follows a series of photographer-targeting books from Photopreneur. These include 99 Ways To Make Money From Your Photos, The Successful Wedding Photographer and The Successful Flickr Photographer.
