The New York Times has announced the expansion of its deal with Redux Pictures, which licenses the newspaper’s images. Redux has been the official U.S. photo-licensing agent since the summer of 2006 and will now also handle sales in Asia and Europe.
The expanded agreement adds 10 countries to Redux-represented territories: Belgium, Finland, Germany, Greece, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden and the U.K. Redux will now license New York Times photography in these markets for use in magazines, books, Web sites, broadcasts and commercial materials, as well as to select newspapers outside of The New York Times News Service and Syndicate clients.
Redux Pictures is based in New York and represents individual photographers and overseas picture agencies. It was established four years ago by industry veteran Marcel Saba. Redux’s arrangement with The New York Times adds more than 7 million images to the Redux-represented inventory. The Times archive dates back to early 1900s and includes work of award-winning journalists. Times photographers won the 2002 Pulitzers in breaking news and features for coverage of the World Trade Center attacks and the conflict in Afghanistan.
