LTU Technologies has announced the public release of its hosted application programming interface, LTU engine/ON demand 1.2. The company also launched the next version of iPhone application lookthatup.
The API enables developers to build mobile applications that integrate image recognition functionality similar to that used by Google Goggles. The API offers the same software as that used by law enforcement agencies and large corporations for close to a decade. It is a hosted solution, with maintenance and upgrades handled by LTU, which is particularly suitable for small businesses looking to outsource.
Lookthatup is the first iPhone app that uses LTU technology. The app, which uses images taken with the phone to index and match items—enables users to point and tap to get more information about a given object that is in the program’s database. The app launched with a database of over 2 million items, such as paintings from large museums, movie posters and CD covers.
