Organizes by CISAC, the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers, the 2009 World Copyright Summit will take place in June in Washington D.C. under the slogan “New Frontiers for Creators in the Marketplace.” Following last year’s debate between Creative Commons founder Lawrence Lessig and CEO of Australian copyright society Brett Cottle, this year pits Consumers Electronics Association’s Gary Shapiro against David Israelite of the National Music Publishers Association. The Summit will focus on challenges for creators and rights owners in the digital ear. It will also attempt to provide a “weather forecast” on the copyright climate. Representatives of NBC Universal, Disney, Google, Nokia, FaceBook, YouTube and others will be among speakers and attendees.
