New iPhone App ID Release aims to change the way photographers and filmmakers obtain model and property releases. Available through the Apple App Store, the app was designed by photographers Jay Corbett and Hans Neleman, both with substantial experience in stock imagery.
Corbett is a New York-based fine art photographer with a still-life focus. His work is represented in Getty Images’ Photonica and Photodisc collections. Co-creator Neleman is a Dutch-born American and founder of stock collection WIN, distributed by Getty and Corbis.
ID Release is based on release forms in use by Getty Images. Intellectual property and digital media attorney Nancy Wolff consulted on the project, and industry bodies such as the Advertising Photographers of America have endorsed the new tool.
The app provides step-by-step guidance that walks models through the legalities of releases, takes their photograph, obtains digital signatures and emails the completed form as a secure PDF to the parties involved. Four types of releases supported are model, property, extra and actor. Currently available in English and Spanish, ID Release will soon support nine additional languages. It is offered with pay-as-you-go, bundled and annual subscription payment options.
