Getty Images has notified its suppliers that it will discontinue offering rights-managed content on the Jupiterimages website as of August 1. Images will be pulled down from www.jupiterimages.com, www.jupiterimages.ca, www.jupiterimages.co.uk, www.jupiterimages.com.au, www.jupiterimages.de, www.jupiterimages.fr and www.jupiterimages.es.
It is still unclear what Getty intends to do with the Jupiterimages site. For the moment, it seems it may continue as an outlet offering royalty-free content under traditional single-image terms or via subscription. Since Getty already has Punchstock as a separate royalty-free company, it is also likely that all Jupiterimages’ royalty-free single-image content will be migrated to the Punchstock site.
That could leave Jupiterimages as an exclusively subscription site. If that should happen,
Getty Images would then be selling rights-managed and royalty-free images on its primary site, royalty-free and discounted products on Punchstock, microstock on iStockphoto, and subscriptions on Jupiterimages. About one-third of Jupiterimages’ sales in the past have been via subscription.
