This year, Getty Images photographers and editors have earned more than 60 awards and honors for editorial imagery and multimedia productions. These include the Overseas Press Club’s Robert Capa Gold Medal Award and Picture of the Year International’s Magazine Photographer of the Year Award.
The OPC honor went to Shaul Schwarz, a Reportage by Getty Images photographer, who documented ethnic violence after the elections in Kenya. Getty photographers John Moore and Christ Hondros won the same award in 2008 and 2006.
As reported previously, Getty photographers earned 17 awards at this year’s Pictures of the Year International. In addition to strong Getty performance in the sports and Olympics categories, the company’s Uriel Sinai was awarded the title of Magazine Photographer of the Year.
The White House News Photographers Association also honored six Getty staff and Reportage photographers. Charles Ommanney was awarded Political Photo of the Year for an image of then President-elect Barack Obama (for Newsweek) and 10 additional awards for campaign and inauguration coverage. David Holloway, Jeff Hutchens, Chip Somodevilla, Mark Wilson and Alex Wong were also recognized for election-related work.
Getty’s Al Bello, Quinn Rooney, Ezra Shaw and Cameron Spencer dominated the sports-photojournalism category at the National Press Photographers Association’s Best of Photojournalism Awards. The work of Getty’s sports photographers was also recognized in several other sports and Olympic categories.
Two multimedia projects by Getty’s Richard Gershon were singled out by the NPPA and the Webby Awards.
The work of winning photographers is showcased on a dedicated Getty Images awards Web site.
