Getty Images has become the exclusive distributor of the Jane Goodall Institute’s footage of endangered chimpanzees. The Institute’s videographer Bill Wallauer has been documenting the species’ daily life in Tanzania’s Gombe National Park for over 15 years.
Founded in 1977, the Jane Goodall Institute is the leader in chimpanzee behavioral research. Gathered through such research, its footage collection includes all aspects of the species’ life, such as births, dominance displays and mysterious “rain dances.” According to Institute president Bill Johnston, Wallauer’s footage also captures never-before-seen behavior of chimpanzees in the wild, such as laughing, holding hands and hugging.
In addition to his work for the Institute, Wallauer has served as camera operator and scientific advisor to over 30 productions, including Animal Planet’s “Chimp Week” and Discovery Channel’s “Planet Earth.”
The Institute’s footage will be offered under rights-ready licensing.
