Berlin-based fStop has launched the fCards App for the popular Apple lines of iPhone, iPad and iPod. The app, available through the iTunes store for $1.99, is a mobile adaptation of the free e-card service fStop has developed previously.
The fCards App allows users to send virtual postcards from mobile devices. The app was developed by boowoop based on the Flash-based online original by Punchcut. Both products use proprietary typefaces by fStop sister companies FontFont and FontShop.
iPhone users can select from fStop-provided imagery—organized in common greeting card categories of birthdays, holidays, love and others—or use their own photos with fCards. The cards feature the image and customizable headline on one side and provide space for a personal message on reverse. In addition to sending these by email, cards can also be shared on Facebook.
fStop’s Derick Rhodes said: “As I’m sure will be the case with lots of stock companies in the coming months, we’re branching out.” In addition to promoting fStop’s royalty-free image and related font offerings to a broad audience, the new offering may also have a direct effect on the company’s bottom line, as it taps into the burgeoning consumer market with a low-priced add-on to one of the most popular products in the world.
