Mass.-based Footage Farm upgraded its Web site, including full XML integration with the Google Base API. Through this technology, users can search for specific terms and details that are part of the company’s database directly from Google—even when these words do not appear in the actual text of the Web site.
By making roughly a third of its 18,000-clip library available though Google and its own Web site, the company is providing new access to its historical and archival footage. Other new features include improved Web site search, which now allows visitors to search by country, time period and relevant keywords.
“Our collection encompasses World War I and Word War II footage, Hollywood footage, Vietnam and Cold War footage, Civil Rights era footage, Americana, and rarities and oddities from the 1890s on. We have Marilyn Monroe and Nikita Khrushchev. We have Siberia and New York City, beauty queens and baseball. We offer these online tools to help customers find what they’re looking for. We also offer free research by trained staff,” says Managing Director Steve Alves.
