Cradoc Corp., the maker of popular photo-pricing and business-management products fotoQuote and fotoBiz, has developed an image-keywording solution:
fotoKeyword Harvester. According to the company, fotoKeyword Harvester presents a new approach to keywording.
First, it helps a photographer learn the language of keywording by mimicking a process a buyer goes through to find images. The photographer looks for similar images in several sources and reviews their keywords, capturing those that are useful in a search. The photographer can also add other keywords and text, and fotoKeyword Harvester will reformat all of these into comma-separated keywords, removing duplicates in the process.
The next step allows the photographer to review and remove unnecessary keywords. Fine-tuning follows, using the software's built-in controlled vocabulary, Keyword Composer. According to the company, this third step is where other keyword programs start.
The fotoKeyword Harvester also works with any image-editing or cataloging program, including Lightroom, Aperture and Photoshop Bridge. This allows for seamless integration of the final keywords into images as metadata. Other features include the ability to create keyword templates, tabbed Internet browsing that is modified with custom fotoKeyword Harvester tabs, two screen sizes, an exceptions list that includes articles and other unnecessary words, and an option that preserves word groups.
Cradoc products are made with solo practitioners in mind. Longtime photographer and company founder Cradoc Bagshaw uses his photo business as inspiration, creating software to solve business problems.
