Corbis now represents has become the exclusive global representative of archival material from the National Geographic—a collection that dates back to 1900. The company has announced a new partnership with the National Geographic Society. [Ed. 2/23]
The revered magazine’s library spans geography, archaeology and natural science. Corbis will also represent content from National Geographic Traveler—which showcases places, experiences, culture and photography from around the world—and the broader NGS archive.
Thousands of images have already been made available through the Corbis Web site; the company plans to reach an online offering of 20,000 NGS images by the end of the year. NGS motion content is also available through Corbis via its partnership with Thought Equity Motion.
NGS vice president of image collection Maura Mulvihill said the organization chose Corbis because of its strong reputation and global presence. Under similar arrangements, Corbis represents the image collections of the Smithsonian Institute, the National Gallery-London and the State Hermitage Museum.
