How much longer will we need photos for commercial projects? Anyone who has been to the movies or looked at print ads recently is familiar with what computer generated imagery can accomplish in creating unreal, fantastic and impossible situations.
Happy Finish, a London-based retouching and CGI collective, says that CGI can often be a faster and more flexible tool for creating photo-realistic sets and, in some cases, environments that no longer exist. Matt Painter, CGI artist at Happy Finish, recently re-created the 1960s iconic TWA terminal at JFK International Airport (see images 2 and 3 on this page) for photographer and long-term client Benedict Redgrove to use in a fashion shoot. The actual building has been out of use since 2001 and development has profoundly altered the original clear-cut design and open spaces.
