The third International Photo Metadata Conference will take place on June 4, during the annual gathering of Coordination of European Picture Agencies Press Stock Heritage in Dresden. This year, the scope of discussion extends to multimedia, particularly video metadata.
According to CEPIC’s Staffan Teste, various types of media are converging. “Driven by the requirements of Web publishers, the exchange of visual media using photos, graphics and video is merging into a single business,” he said.
This has obvious metadata implications. Conference organizers plan to discuss the differences between video and stills metadata, how to handle video metadata and how to automate he process.
Hosted by CEPIC, the metadata event is organized by the International Press Telecommunications Council and IFRA, the worldwide research and service organization for the news publishing industry. Attendees will include solo photographers and videographers, photo editors and representatives of footage and stock-photo libraries, camera makers and software producers.
Despite dire economic conditions, the Dresden congress has attracted substantial attention. Thus far, close to 600 delegates from 373 companies have registered to attend, and practically all exhibit tables have been booked. Last year’s CEPIC congress in Malta hosted 734 delegates from 434 companies in 44 countries.
