Those that have traditionally made their living licensing stills to print educational and textbook publishers should take heed: there is ample evidence that predictions of such uses giving way to digital, often video-based options are true. ITN Source and its Education Clip Library just announced a deal with Archipelago Learning to provide video content for Archipelago’s Study Island—an online standards-based assessment, instruction, practice, and test preparation program for the U.S. K-12 educational market.
It is also notable that this large piece of U.S.-based business went to a U.K. stock specialist. This underscores ITN Source’s dominance of the footage market: this division of U.K. news production company ITN claims to be the world’s largest provider of archive video footage.
The deal also suggests that coveted education business will go to specialists, and ITN Source is well positioned in this area with its Education Clip Library. This product is essentially an edited and targeted collection of educationally contextualized video learning objects, specifically aimed at educational publishers and curriculum content providers.
It is this library that made the difference, according to Archipelago vice president of publishing Cathy Caldwell: “We’ve signed on with ITN Source for access to hundreds of clips through the Education Clip Library, which covers a broad range of subjects for different educational stages. We’re excited to have this education-focused content in our hands, helping bring digital technology that students are familiar with to their school life and enable enhanced teaching methodologies.”
