To celebrate hitting 20 million images, Alamy will reward whoever uploads the 20 millionth picture with 100% royalties for 20 of their images over the subsequent 20 months.
Expanding the theme of 20 into a full competition, Alamy will also award 20 runner-up prizes for those who email or tweet with the closest prediction of the time and date that the 20 millionth image hits the site. Each of the lucky winners will take all the royalties on one of their images for 20 weeks.
Head of content Alan Capel said: “We’ve always taken great pride in passing the largest share of the sale back to the photographer. What better way to celebrate the ground breaking milestone of 20 million images than to increase the royalty to the max for a group of lucky contributors?”
New iPad app
The U.K. company has also launched the Alamy Photo Collection app for iPad. At launch, the app showcased a gallery of 50 images sourced from Alamy’s large network of photographers and international agencies. The app is available for free download, and one or two new images will be added to this collection every day.
Alamy chief executive officer James West said: “The Alamy Photo Collection app is beautifully simple—it’s free, it looks great, it’s updated every day, and it brings the Alamy brand to an exciting new device for a global audience of photography enthusiasts.”
